The Area

Albany is located at the top of the North Shore, 15 kilometres Northwest of the Auckland city centre. A lot of investment has gone into this area and this will likely continue for years to come as Albany still has a lot of area to develop. If you are looking to get out and about, make a trip to Kell Park which has a nice walk and a flying fox great for the kids.

Looking for a new outfit or trying to find the perfect home theatre setup? You can spend hours shopping at the Albany mall which offers a huge range of shops. You may also be interested in checking out the Albany Farmers market which is held on the first and third Saturday of every month from 9am to 1pm.

There are several very popular schools including Albany Primary School, Kristin School, Pinehurst School and Albany Senior High School. All of these schools have a decile rating. Albany is also home to Massey University which offers 70 majors plus specialised programs.

The History

Originally called 'Lucas Creek' but renamed Albany in 1890, after the place of the same name in Western Australia, which in turn was named in honour of Prince Frederick, Duke of York and Albany. The Māori name is Ōkahukura - place of the Kahukura, an atua (god) related to rainbows.
